Are canvas prints the same as paintings ?

Absolutely not. Paintings are “one of a kind” originals while canvas prints are reproductions whereby multiple copies can be made.

What is a canvas art print ?

Canvas art is a digital reproduction of an original piece of art (drawing, watercolor, oil painting) that is printed onto a canvas. Most canvas art prints are printed on wide format inkjet printers which use water based inks. The canvas itself has a coating that is receptive to the inks. Depending on the supplier, the canvas itself can vary in terms of thickness and texture.

Do canvas prints need to be stretched ?

Canvas prints are usually stretched over wooden frames in most cases. However in special circumstances they can also be mounted to other rigid surfaces like masonite of aluminum composite.

Do canvas prints need a frame ?

Canvas prints can be stretched in any of three ways depending on what finished style the customer is looking for.

Framing: Framing is the traditional option for canvases especially if they are being placed into more formal settings such as a living room or places with other framed wall art. these days people frequently opt for float frames which give the artwork a light, contemporary look. These open face frames are better at accommodating stretched canvases because they are deeper than most other frame styles.

Wrapping: simply wrapping a canvas around a stretcher frame is a modern, informal way to display art. There are two versions of canvas wraps which differ in how the sides of the stretched canvas is finished. In museum wraps the sides are usually finished in a solid, dark color (usually black). With gallery wraps the canvas sides have a mirror image of the canvas face at its edges. This mirror edge is created and printed at the same time as the main image.

Are canvas prints valuable ?

Generally speaking, canvas prints only have long term value if they are printed in signed, limited editions.

Can canvas art be hung in a bathroom ?

Canvas art can be hung in a bathroom if the surface of the canvas has been sealed. Moisture can be an issue in bathrooms with showers or tubs but less so in two piece bathrooms.
