Drawings
All too often drawings in media such as pencil, charcoal and conte are thought of as simply preparatory sketches for paintings in another medium. While this is often the case, many of these drawings are masterworks in their own right. One only has to look back to the Renaissance to appreciate the profound beauty and craftsmanship in a drawing by Da Vinci, Rembrandt or Rafael. We now appreciate that drawings may well be the final statement by an artist rather than an insignificant preliminary work.
